The MED4REGEN (Mediterranean for Regenerative Tourism and Culture) project emerges as a response to the shared challenge of promoting a profound cultural shift toward regenerative tourism models in the Mediterranean region. Led by the Veneto Region of Italy as the lead partner, and with the participation of seven other main partners and eight associated partners from seven European countries, the project seeks to transform the way cultural institutions and the tourism sector interact with local communities, generating positive impacts on the climate, society, and the environment. Its overall objective is to consolidate local cultural ecosystems capable of addressing common challenges such as overtourism, loss of authenticity, the disconnection between urban centers and peripheral areas, and the need to adapt natural and cultural heritage to climate change.
The project is structured around five thematic challenges related to tourism and common to all partners:
- Overtourism
- Mainstream Narratives
- Naturalistic, Scientific and Landscape Heritage
- Urban Cultural Centers
- Suburban Cultural Centers
In the development of the project, the associated entities or Associated Partners (APs) They play a fundamental role as testing and validation spaces for the methodologies and solutions developed.
